How Have Patriots Fared Recently in October?
Fact Checked by Pat McLoone

The NFL offseason always seems so long. Before fans can even catch their breath during the frenetic start to the season, it seems as if September is in the rear-view mirror and the second month of the season is already under way. October is a pivotal month in the NFL, with each team three or sometimes four games in and either needing to continue momentum from a strong start or to right the ship after a tough month.

With the calendar turning to October, BetMassachusetts.com — your source for MA sports betting — decided to look at which teams perform the best in the month. We used StatMuse.com to find the records of every team in October since 2018. Not all teams have played the same number of October games, so the rankings are based on win percentage.

Patriots Gearing Up for October

As one of the teams hoping to climb out of an early hole, the New England Patriots hope they can continue their October success. Sunday’s 15-10 win over the New York Jets breathed a little life into the Patriots’ playoff chances.

Since 2018, New England ranks eighth in the NFL with a .636 winning percentage. The Patriots trail seven teams, including first-place New Orleans, which has a surprising .789 October record.

Losses to the Philadelphia Eagles and Miami Dolphins put the Patriots in an early season hole and marked the first time since 2001 the team started 0-2. Now, that season eventually ended in a Super Bowl win, but without a young Tom Brady waiting in the wings to take over under center, the chances of history repeating in that way seem quite unlikely.

The Patriots rebounded in Week 3 with their 15th consecutive win over the Jets, but a 1-2 start is not doing much for the Patriots’ Super Bowl odds. New England has five October games, starting Sunday at Dallas. The fifth is a Week 8 rematch with the division rival Dolphins.

Dallas looks like a top team in the league early — at least before a puzzling loss at Arizona Sunday. The Cowboys — who are a 7-point and -300 moneyline favorite over the Patriots at BetMGM Massachusetts — have an outstanding defense.

With a veteran coach like Bill Belichick, the Patriots always will have a chance to win football games, and he knows the importance of the month of October, especially given where the Patriots stand going into the month. History suggests he will have the team ready to excel. Then again, the drop from Brady to Mac Jones at quarterback might play a bigger role and this team could head into November with little to no hope at getting a playoff spot.

Either way, BetMassachusetts.com will be watching closely and providing the best Massachusetts sports betting promo codes.
