The Massachusetts Gaming Commission released its July 2026 revenue report on August 20. The report covers casino gaming and Massachusetts sports betting, with results from the state's three casinos, its three retail sportsbooks, and its seven licensed online operators.

How Much Sports Wagering Revenue Was Reported

Operators generated approximately $65.56 million in taxable sports wagering revenue (TSWR) for the month of July. That total combines the seven mobile/online sports wagering licensees and the three in-person licensees.

Encore Boston Harbor, MGM Springfield, and Plainridge Park Casino hold Category 1 sports wagering licenses, which allow each property to run a retail sportsbook. Category 1 operators are taxed on 15% of TSWR. The Category 3 operators offering Mass betting apps are Bally Bet, BetMGM, Caesars Sportsbook, DraftKings, Fanatics Betting & Gaming, FanDuel, and theScore Bet. Category 3 operators are taxed on 20% of TSWR.

Casino Gross Gaming Revenue

Plainridge Park Casino, MGM Springfield, and Encore Boston Harbor produced approximately $95.78 million in gross gaming revenue (GGR) during July 2026. Plainridge Park is a Category 2 slots facility and is taxed on 49% of GGR. Of that taxed amount, 82% is paid to Local Aid and 18% is allotted to the Race Horse Development Fund

MGM Springfield and Encore Boston Harbor are Category 1 resort casinos taxed on 25% of GGR, and that money is allocated to several state funds as determined by the gaming statute. Since each facility opened, the Commonwealth has collected approximately $2.501 billion in total taxes and assessments from casino operations at the three properties.

Where the Tax Money Goes

Sports wagering tax revenue is split five ways: 45% to the General Fund, 27.5% to the Gaming Local Aid Fund, 17.5% to the Workforce Investment Trust Fund, 9% to the Public Health Trust Fund, and 1% to the Youth Development and Achievement Fund.

To date, the Commonwealth has collected approximately $490.96 million in total taxes and assessments from licensed operators' sports wagering operations since wagering began in person on January 31, 2023, and online on March 10, 2023. When an operator's adjusted gross sports wagering receipts for a month are negative, because winnings paid to wagerers and federal excise taxes exceed total gross receipts, the Sports Wagering Law allows that operator to carry the negative amount in tax liability over to returns filed for later months.
