With eight days until the official launch of three retail Massachusetts sportsbooks, one major sports betting provider announced its intentions for the future.
Caesars Entertainment announced Monday plans to build a retail sportsbook through a partnership with Raynham Park, pending approval by the Massachusetts Gaming Commission (MGC).
Located in Raynham (south of Boston), Caesars will open a 30,000-square-foot Caesars Massachusetts Sportsbook at the Raynham Park retail location to be completed in mid-2023.
It will become one of the largest free-standing race and sports wagering facilities in the United States.
Before its permanent brick-and-mortar space, Caesars will have a temporary sportsbook inside Raynham Park’s horse/harness racing simulcasting facility.
“Raynham Park is an excellent location in southeast Massachusetts and will be one of just a few retail sports betting locations in the Commonwealth,” said Eric Hession, president of Caesars Digital, in a news release. “It’s great to partner with the Carney family, which has a long history in the community and an exciting vision for a tremendous sports entertainment and pari-mutuel simulcasting facility. We look forward to showcasing the Caesars commitment to world-class experiences through this partnership.”
Caesars Among Approved Sportsbooks
Caesars Sportsbook already has been approved and awarded a temporary Category 3 (mobile) sports betting license in the Commonwealth by the Massachusetts Gaming Commission.
Caesars is one of five sportsbooks tied to the state’s three casinos — Encore Boston Harbor in Everett, MGM Springfield and Plainridge Park Casino. The others are Barstool Sports, BetMGM Massachusetts, Fanatics and WynnBet.
Massachusetts betting apps are expected to launch in mid-March, before the start of the NCAA Men’s College Basketball Tournament, but no official launch date/time has been announced.
“Caesars Sportsbook is the strongest retail sports gaming brand in the industry, and we are extremely proud to announce our partnership,” said Raynham Park owner Chris Carney. “Our sportsbook will be one of the largest sports gaming destinations not only in Massachusetts, but in the United States. With Caesars' legendary commitment to quality and integrity, Raynham Park will be a world-class venue that will set a new standard for gaming in Massachusetts.”
Raynham Park had a sports betting partnership with bet365 Massachusetts, but announced that is no longer the case. They are openly seeking a new sportsbook. The track is one of three in the state to offer a sportsbook, including Suffolk Downs and Plainridge Park.
