The Red Sox were swept by the Yankees in the Wild Card Series, but the winter started on a high note for Boston. Wilyer Abreu, Ceddanne Rafaela and Caleb Durbin each won a 2026 Gold Glove, a haul that tied Arizona for the most of any team. It gives the offseason a defensive storyline as Massachusetts sports betting markets turn toward 2027.

Rafaela repeated in center field with 21 defensive runs saved and 10 five-star catches, the most in the majors according to MLB.com. The trio is the fifth set of three Red Sox winners in a single season, following 1968, 1979, 2011 and 2018, and the first since 2018. Abreu and Rafaela also became the third pair of outfield teammates to win in back-to-back years, joining Dwight Evans and Fred Lynn in 1978 and 1979 and Pittsburgh's Andy Van Slyke and Barry Bonds from 1990 to 1992.
Evans owns the franchise record with eight Gold Gloves between 1976 and 1985, followed by Carl Yastrzemski with seven. Dustin Pedroia and Fred Lynn each won four, and Mookie Betts took four straight in right field from 2016 to 2019. Catchers Carlton Fisk, Tony Pena and Jason Varitek also made the list.

Boston reached the postseason as a Wild Card team before the Yankees ended its run. The latest Red Sox odds at DraftKings list Boston at +1100 to win the 2027 World Series, which implies about an 8.3% chance. It is the only Red Sox futures market posted so far.
What the Gloves Can and Cannot Fix
Run prevention gives Boston a foundation, but it was not enough in October. The Red Sox were outscored 18-2 in the two-game loss to New York, a reminder that gloves alone do not win a series. The winter will show how much help the offense gets, and the futures will move with it.
