BetMGM Partners with Red Sox Before Mobile Launch

BetMGM Massachusetts has been a well-known brand in the Commonwealth with its MGM Springfield Casino since Aug. 24, 2018. 

Days before it launches its mobile product in Massachusetts it entered a partnership with the Boston Red Sox. More on that below.
  
Former Gov. Charlie Baker signed Bill H.5164 on Aug 10, 2022, which officially legalized Massachusetts sports betting.

Then, on Dec. 19, the Massachusetts Gaming Commission (MGC) voted unanimously for BetMGM to have a Category 3 (mobile) temporary sports wagering operator license. This license is tethered to the Category 1 (retail) license awarded to MGM Springfield. 
 
Retail sports betting in the state launched on Jan. 31, with the MGM Springfield retails sportsbook being one of three locations to go live. The site includes: 18 sports betting kiosks, five live teller betting windows, an in-venue bar with tabletop gaming machines with four rows of comfortable seating and a massive video wall.

Mobile sports betting launches Friday at 10 a.m. BetMGM will be one of the seven Massachusetts betting apps to go live. BetMassachusetts.com will take a look at the other six in stories similar to this.

What Are They Saying?

“We’ve been thrilled with the action we’re seeing at the BetMGM Sportsbook at MGM Springfield and are looking forward to bringing the BetMGM mobile app to sports fans throughout the state of Massachusetts,” said a BetMGM company spokesperson.

BetMGM Mobile is live in 24 states (including Ontario) and retail is live in 13 states.

When Will Revenue Figures Be Announced?

Official monthly handle/revenue figures for the state will be released by the MGC on/about the 15th of every month, with mobile expected to make its first appearance in April’s report.

Details on Partnership with Red Sox

BetMGM announced its partnership with the Red Sox Tuesday. BetMGM becomes an official sports betting partner of the Red Sox.

It was the company's first relationship with a pro team in the state. It also was the first for the Red Sox.

"The Red Sox are one of baseball's most beloved organizations and we're thrilled to bring BetMGM to their passionate fans," Matt Prevost, chief revenue officer for BetMGM, said in a news release. "We look forward to working together to elevate the gameday experience in Boston."

As part of the partnership, look for BetMGM signage on the famed Green Monster outfield wall in Fenway Park.

"The Boston Red Sox are proud to partner with BetMGM as we prepare to enter a new era of professional sports betting in Massachusetts," said Troup Parkinson, executive VP for partnerships, for the Red Sox. "Given our strong relationship with MGM Resorts, BetMGM was the clear choice to become the first sports betting partner of the club, and we look forward to them offering sports betting opportunities to our fans in a safe and responsible manner."
