Wings, Burgers, Hot Dogs? What Is Massachusetts’ Favorite Cookout Food?

Fact Checked by Pat McLoone

Can you smell it, Massachusetts?

No, not the Boston Bruins stinking up TD Bank Garden against the Florida Panthers Sunday to be ousted in the first round of the NHL Playoffs.

We’re talking about summer in New England starting in a month and a half (June 21, to be exact). And with summer comes those glorious smells from grills all around you.

BetMassachusetts.com – your source for updates on Massachusetts sports betting promos - utilized Google Trends to determine the most searched main meal for cookouts in each of the nation’s 50 states.

The following meals were included once determining the top five most popular cookout foods based on search history in the summer – “Wings,” “Hamburger,” “Hot Dog,” “Ribs” and “Grilled Chicken.”

After completing the trends over the past five years (from April 1 to Sept. 1 each year), we were able to average out the results to get the top cookout foods for each state.

There are odds and results for countless items on Massachusetts betting apps, but you won’t find this info on one.

Mass. Is a Wings State

Wings were the fourth choice out of five across the nation, but tops in the Commonwealth.

Buffalo chicken, barbecued chicken - any kind of wing you can imagine, Massachusetts eats.

Massachusetts was among six states in which Wings was the No. 1 cookout food. Heavy East Coast bias, as the others were Georgia, Maryland, New Hampshire, New York and Pennsylvania.

The decisive winner was ribs, with 19 states. Hot dogs and hamburgers tied for second with 10.

Summer officially ends on Friday, Sept. 22, so you have three full months to enjoy the weather, root for the Red Sox and cook to your heart’s content.
