What Is the Favorite Song by The Beatles in Mass.?

Fact Checked by Pat McLoone

Sunday is Global Beatles Day, an annual celebration of the British rock and roll band that stormed America in the 1960s on their way to becoming arguably the most successful pop group of all time.

Starting out in Liverpool, The Beatles released their first single - “Love Me Do” - in 1962. After some initial shuffling of band members, this release solidified the lineup of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr. The foursome would put out a total of 12 studios albums, selling more than 600 million copies around the world.

In tribute to the lads from Liverpool, BetMassachusetts.com is taking a break from our coverage of legal Massachusetts sportsbooks to figure out which Beatles song is the favorite among Massachusetts residents.

To do so, we used Google Trends to find the most searched Beatles song in each state of the United States. After completing the trends over the past 12 months (from June 15th, 2022, to June 15th, 2023), we were able to find the top three Beatles songs for the state of Massachusetts.

According to our data, which you won’t find on any Massachusetts betting apps, the most popular Beatles song in Massachusetts is “All You Need Is Love.” This is a fitting pick for this article, since it is the song that inspired the date of Global Beatles Day.

On June 25, 1967, The Beatles performed “All You Need Is Love” as part of the “Our World” television broadcast, which was the first-ever live television event to be broadcast simultaneously around the world via satellite. Several different countries contributed to the show, which aired in 24 different countries.

The BBC spearheaded the live show, with The Beatles contributing an original, never-been-heard-before song. With more than 400 million people watching around the globe, songwriters John Lennon and Paul McCartney hoped “All You Need Is Love” would epitomize the spirit of the 1960s and so-called “Summer of Love.”

The second most popular Beatles song in Massachusetts is “Let it Be,” from the album of the same name. It was the final Beatles single to come out before McCartney left the group.

Although credited to the Lennon-McCartney partnership, Paul is responsible for this song. McCartney was inspired to write it when he awoke from a dream about his mother, who passed away from cancer in 1956. The “mother Mary” referenced in the lyrics isn’t the mother of Christ — it’s actually Paul’s mom, Mary McCartney.”

“In My Life” is the third most popular Beatles song in Massachusetts. A release from their sixth album Rubber Soul, “In My Life” didn’t reach the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 — as a record-setting 20 other Beatles songs would. But the soulful ballad inspired by Lennon’s childhood has endured as one of their most loved tracks. That is thanks in no small part to cover versions by the likes of Rod Stewart and Johnny Cash.

During their incredible eight-year run The Beatles performed twice in Massachusetts. The first was at Boston Garden in 1964 as a part of their first American tour, which took place at the height of Beatlemania. They would return to Beantown in 1966, where they performed at the former Suffolk Downs horse track. They didn’t perform any of Massachusetts' current favorite songs at either show.
