On the heels of an All-Star season where he was named the MVP of the Mid-Summer Classic, things have fallen off a bit for Boston Red Sox slugger Jarren Duran, who is hitting .259 with seven home runs and 47 RBIs in 92 games played this season. While Duran still has two years of arbitration to go before he hits free agency for the first time, it’s worth wondering whether Red Sox Chief Baseball Officer Craig Breslow will opt to ship his 28-year-old outfielder, which got the team at BetMassachusetts.com thinking about potential landing spots for the AL’s triples leader in 2024.

New York Mets | 4.8% | +2000 |
Cleveland Guardians | 3.2% | +3000 |

Given his remaining seasons of team control and the team-friendly $8 million that he’s set to make this season, it seems like a reach to assume that Breslow will opt to move Duran at all, which is part of the reason why we’re giving Boston -250 odds of keeping the California native through the end of the year (at least).
Given how Duran’s racked up 12.0 WAR (per Baseball-Reference.com) through his first 445 MLB games, it seems like it’d be a bold move on Breslow’s part to choose to ship out the up-and-coming outfielder, though that calculus could shift if the right offer is presented between now and July 31.
Should the Red Sox front office opt to trade Duran, keep an eye on big spenders like the San Diego Padres (+1750), Philadelphia Phillies and New York Mets (+2000 each) to be the leaders in the race to land the fifth year outfielder out of Long Beach State.
Three more teams to keep an eye on when it comes to Duran’s potential trade deadline landing spots include squads like the Cleveland Guardians and San Francisco Giants, at +3000 apiece, while the Minnesota Twins are the longest of longshots in the race, at +3250.
The Giants have already swung for the fences in a deal involving Boston this season, landing Rafael Devers in mid-June in a shocking deal that sent Joran Hicks, Kyle Harrison, James Tibbs III and Jose Bello to Beantown. Interestingly, the Sox have played better since the trade, as their backers across Massachusetts sports betting know.
Whether San Francisco has enough talent left on the farm to convince Breslow to make another deal remains to be seen, though we’re far from ruling out blockbuster trades when the Red Sox are involved in the proceedings, given the team’s past moves for franchise cornerstones like Mookie Betts and Devers.
