Using data from Google Trends, Statista, and Forbes Business, BetMassachusetts.com created a weighted ranking by which to rate the state for dating. We used Statista to find the percentage of single-person households in each state, Google Trends for the average search volumes of inquires “date ideas,” “first date activities near me,” and “florists near me” by state, and Forbes Business for data on the average annual income for a single person in each state and created the Dating Index.

Where Massachusetts Ranks Nationally

Massachusetts wound up ranking 15th out of 50 states and Washington D.C. in our survey, with a dating index score of 29.33. The state finished just behind several of its neighbors, including No. 12 Vermont (31.67 index score) and No. 14 Maine (31.33 score), with Massachusetts wrapping up one spot ahead of New Hampshire, which finished with a score of 29.25.  

Nationally, the best states to date (sorted by index scores) were Washington D.C. (48.33 score), North Dakota (40.67), Rhode Island (37.70), Wyoming (37.67) and Alabama (36.33). Conversely, the worst states to date in the U.S. by our metrics were Nevada (11.67 score), Kentucky (12.33), South Carolina (12.67) Indiana (14.67) and Mississippi (17).
